Darrell Freeland.

It’s with great sadness this week that we lost our very good friend and Festival co-founder Darrell Freeland, or as many of us know him by ‘Duds’.

A dedicated soul to the local footballing community, he will be hugely missed by his family and friends, and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him – enjoying his incredible humour, kindness and commitment to having a good time, raising money for causes and charities, as well as our very own Bracknell Ale & Cider Festival.

Duds enjoyed a beer, and over the past 8 years his meticulous choice of ever increasing varieties – the tastes, notes, flavours, strengths, colours, styles, numbers and details such as arranging the ordering has been down to him, of which we get highly praised for each and every time.

He would have wanted us to make this year the best one yet and to make sure we all have a good time; 3 weeks ago he was determined to make it this year but alas it will be in spirit – and he had plenty of that. We’ll be making a contribution to Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Charity as our nominated charity and encourage anyone to visit www.rbhcharity.org to donate or appreciate the challenging work they do. So we will commit to continue our mate’s legacy and make this year another success, making sure that Duds – the larger than life and soul of most events, parties, trips or matches we’ve enjoyed with him over the past 15 years is truly remembered. We’ll miss you mate, thanks for everything that words can’t quite describe.

All our thoughts are with his loving family at this sad time.
