Captain D is a tribute to our friend, the late Darrell Freeland. It’s a collaboration between the beer festival team and Henley Distillery using their amazing Temple Island Spiced Rum. It’s a hat tip to the old Festival favourite and best-seller Captain B, produced by the much-missed Irving & Co. What’s it like? You’ll need to raise the Jolly Roger and set sail on a quest to find out.

Brewed in collaboration with members of our team for International Women’s Day 2025, we wanted to make a refreshing, zesty pale ale, to be enjoyed throughout spring. This Citrus Pale is brewed with lime and grapefruit zest, to evoke juicy flavours of margaritas and palomas. The Godess Siris, sister to Ninkasi, was associated with all things beer in Mesopotamia.

An enticing amber colour with a hoppy and slightly fruity aroma. We use the finest English malt carefully balanced with local Fuggles hops. This is gently fermented to leave some of the natural malt sugars, to give a full and satisfying flavour with a long, dry finish.

This beer, previously brewed five times exclusively at Redemption’s brewery in Tottenham, now makes its debut at The Kernel brewery. Inspired by a vision of a Victorian-era mild ale, this brew emerges as a warm, robust, and rich concoction, brimming with flavours reminiscent of caramels, toffees, and burnt sugars. Fruity US hops lend their unique support, harmonizing with the malt’s dessert-like qualities. The colour mirrors the depths of autumn, showcasing hues of brown, russet, and intensely concentrated reds. Yet, amidst this depth, the spice derived from The Kernel’s house London Ale yeast imparts notes of bread, gingerbread, and marmalade, culminating in a clean, bitterness-laced finish.

Ringmaster our flag ship pale ale, is the beer you’ll want to drink every day. Pale in colour but unlike other pale ales lacking nothing in the flavour stakes. We use plenty of US hops to give the beer a floral/grassy aroma and lip smacking citrus flavours which combine with a defined malty character to make a magically moreish and quenching beer.

An unfined golden ale which is all about the fruit. Citrus, tropical and stone fruits dominate the aroma and again in the mouth, with grapefruit, pineapple, orange and peaches all detectable over a light malt base and a strong hop character. The fruit then gives way to a short, dry bitter finish.

Brewed for the first time in 2013 and then again in 2015, we love the intriguing combination of flavours in this strong Slovenian hopped golden ale. Named after Perun – God of sky, thunder, lightning, storms, rain, law, war, fertility and ……oak trees. Not one to be messed with then. Soft citrus hop flavours (think satsuma and clementine) combine with sweet apricot and passionfruit and intriguing hints of candy.

An authentic IPA, masterfully brewed with passion and precision. Bursting with bold citrus character – grapefruit, pineapple and zesty orange – it delivers vibrant flavour in every sip. A solid malty backbone balances the hops, leading to a crisp, satisfyingly bitter finish. Bold, refreshing and reliably top quality. This is an authentic IPA done properly.
